At Woolway Studios, everything begins with nature. Nestled in the heart of Yerevan, Armenia, we are a home for traditional craftsmanship, natural materials, and meaningful creativity.

Our studio brings together artisans, travelers, and learners through naturally dyed yarns, handwoven textiles, and rug restoration rooted in centuries-old Armenian heritage. Whether you visit us for a workshop, an exhibition, or a quiet stay, Woolway Studios offers a space to reconnect with the essence of handmade culture.

We believe in sustainability not as a trend, but as a responsibility. That’s why we work exclusively with natural fibers, plant-based dyes, and timeless techniques.

Welcome to Woolway — where craft is a way of life.

Our Founders

Woolway Studios was founded on August 11, 2020 by Hayk Oltaci (Հայկ Օլթածը) and Mariam Nalbandyan.
Together, they envisioned a space where ancient Armenian textile traditions could meet contemporary creativity and sustainable living.

  • Hayk Oltaci, also the founder of Hayko Fine Rugs and Tapestries (New York), brings decades of expertise in textile restoration and a lifelong passion for reviving age-old weaving and dyeing techniques.
  • Mariam Nalbandyan is an artist, educator, and cultural advocate whose vision shapes Woolway’s community programs, artist residencies, and educational initiatives. Her leadership ensures that the studio remains a welcoming hub for learning, collaboration, and cultural exchange.

Connect with Hayk on LinkedIn or visit haykoltaci.com to explore his personal studio and archive.

Woolway is deeply committed to sustainable and eco-friendly practices. All dyes are derived from plants, and wool is sourced directly from trusted local farmers. Every batch is hand-sorted, washed, and spun by artisans using traditional methods passed down through generations.

Visitors are invited to experience Armenia’s rich textile heritage firsthand. Through interactive workshops and exhibitions, guests can learn about the cultural and historical significance of each handcrafted piece. The Woolway Art Center serves as a creative hub, fostering education, appreciation, and hands-on engagement with the textile arts.
